Sigyn
Mythology: Norse
Goddess of: Fidelity and Devotion
Name means: “Victorious Girl-Friend”, “Bringer of Victory”
Sigyn is Loki’s loving wife who stayed by his side, even in punishment.
After orchestrating the death of Baldur, Loki was punished severely: His children were killed, their intestines used as restraints to tie him to some rocks, and a giant venomous snake was poised above his head. The venom from the snake would drip down, burning Loki. Sigyn sat by his side with a bowl to catch the falling venom to protect him from some of the pain, unfortunately the bowl would fill up often and she would have leave his side to go pour it out. The drops that continue to fall burn so badly that he shakes violently, causing earthquakes above ground.
Sigyn was known, as the story above dictates, as a compassionate and caring individual and represents faithfulness and loyalty, even more so when the relationship is going through struggles. Sigyn was so patient and caring to stay with Loki, it makes me smile to see such devotion.

Sigyn is one of my favorite goddesses. Her strength and courage to stand up to the other Aesir, to say “You have taken all that I love, so I will stay here and protect what is left of my hearth, and I don’t care what you try to do to me.” Some people call Loki the Burden of Sigyn’s Arms, but what she does, I think she does out of love. She is a mother and a wife, and her devotion to Loki is of her own choice, not out of obligation. Loki could not force her to hold the bowl over his head if he wanted to; She does it because she’s protecting the only love she has left.
My Freyjaswoman Elder told me the story of Sigyn, and I about cry every time I think about how she told me how much she loves Sigyn. She told the story to me because our Lokikin hailed Sigyn at Ostara blot.
